Illegal Dumping
Around midnight on Monday a lorry dumped a large amount of waste in the Pinfold some hundred metres along the Dale. The Pinfold is some 75 metres in depth from the road so easily concealed. A member of the Council heard the activity from above and attempted to drive a large farm vehicle to the site to obtain the number, but the two or three people had by then disappeared, leaving behind a large amount of mattresses and other trash.
We have reported this to both DDCC Waste Team and the police, but have no identification of the vehicle used.
This is becoming increasingly common, with several incidents in Heathcote over the last year. If you see anything, please do not attempt to tackle the perpetrators but try and obtain the reg number and notify either the Parish Council or other authorities.

We are most grateful for the volunteers who have been watering the new Juniper trees on a Daily Basis from the large water tank supplied by Councillor Richard Sherratt. Particularly important in this very dry spell.
Pond
Having used drainage rods to clear the overflow outlet pipe which should run into the Stanner, we encountered a total collapse after approximately 30 yards, under the tarmac opposite the cheese shop garden. This will clearly require the road digging up and new drainage to replace the current pipe.
Currently at the point of collapse water is finding its way to the surface and bubbling up through small holes in the road tarmac. It then runs down to the existing drain at the corner of Stonewell Lane and is disposed through the normal storm drainage system.
As a result of clearing the silt within the pipe, water flow through the tarmac increased slightly and overnight the pond level has dropped to the level of the overflow – exactly as it should.
Clearly however this is not an ideal situation and we have now contacted DCC who are responsible for both Flood Issues and Road repairs. Hopefully they will respond.

Hartington Pond
Having renovated the pond, we now find the outlet to release high water is blocked somewhere between the pond and the Stanner.
We have now rodded the outlet from within the pond to midway to the Stanner where there is a complete blockage and the drain has collapsed. The rodding has cleared much of the silt and water is gradually seeping through the tarmac opposite the Cheese Shop and running into the drain at the corner of Stonewell Lane. We will notify both DCC highways and Flood Team.
